Collectors Cabinet Single
The collectors cabinet (single) – where art meets design; the doors of the cabinet are constructed from gesso panels in the ancient style made with rabbit glue and chalk like David and Michelangelo painted upon. The doors can be decorated in 2 ways pencil drawn or oil painted and etched. The artist uses graphite to draw straight onto the gesso and then it is sealed to protect the artwork. The second technique the artist oil paints the gesso panels and then etches with a steel pin to reveal the layers of gesso through the oil paint with motifs and vignettes in incredible detail. The painting continues around the curve doors mimicking the three dimensional shape of the cabinet so that the artwork can be viewed from the side or on the angle. The back half of the sides are covered in marble which balances the weight of the extra wide doors – there is form, function and fine art to this cabinet. The cabinet could be lined with the variety of different finishes and used as a cocktail bar or a collectors display. The artwork on the doors and the interior can be linked to what the cabinet is used for.
