Etymology
The modern derivative scallop in old English is the word ‘scēalp’, which then became scalop from the French word ‘escalope’. This shellfish was the symbol of Aphrodite and St James the Great and was used both as a vessel to drink from and a symbol of pilgrimage; a divine path to transformation and unity.
