N0ught

An armchair design that explores both the inner space and outer silhouette. The familiar shape of an armchair is represented in flowing curves revealing the invisible interior, exposing the negative space. By taking away you add something. This armchair explores the inner beauty within. The choice of material is important as the beauty of the wood veneer is extenuated by the form.

Etymology
The 0 Armchair is named after the number zero which postdates 1,2, 3 etc and represents the numerical entity of nothing – like the figure zero there is a physical emptiness at its centre, like the figure zero the physical form, the outer silhouette, is curved. Together they are stronger, a conversation, silence, a relationship. Nothing can be beautiful.
Time
this is made by Stewart Linford my workshop manager who has been making for over 50 years and specialises as a chair maker. It takes more than two months for Stewart to make a single armchair. The sinuous lines belies the complexity of how difficult it is to make.
